Emily found yoga first through dance. She trained classically in ballet, winning numerous technical awards, but recognized that sometimes, she felt something more, like she was being carried by the movement and music. She no longer had to control and manipulate her body into place, but instead let her self be lifted by something greater. From these early explorations of authentic, spiritual movement, she gravitated towards yoga, the movement of healing, non-judgement, and loving intention. Her first teacher, John Bultman a third-series Ashtangi, introduced her to Mysore practice and led her through a second series personal practice. She continued her training in Dharamsala, India, the home of the Dalai Lama, where she received her 200hr Teacher Training certification with Sampoorna Yoga, learning the teaching methodology of Ashtanga-Vinyasa classes. At the University of Virginia she founded the first Vinyasa Yoga club, and after graduation, moved to San Francisco where she currently resides. Emily now trains in the It’s Yoga Ashtanga Vinyasa Rocket system, is 50hr certified to teach it, and is exploring and healing the depths of her mind through the wonderful vehicle of the body.
